We are excited to present our International Women’s Day event for the fourth year in a row! We’ve expanded this year to include an afternoon conference and a feminist market, as well as our traditional evening spotlight speaker event.
We celebrate International Women’s Day yet again by using this platform to explore ideas on how we can all work to advance intersectional gender equity. As always, Marit Collective centres local voices with nuanced examination of key issues and compelling discussion.
Last year’s theme was “Moving from Talk to Walk”—focusing on local initiatives and accessible ways we can act – personally, collectively, and in our region.
We continue that practical focus on knowledge into action with this year’s theme “Know Better, Do Better”—providing opportunities to learn more & to deeply examine important insights and concepts so that we can grow in our understanding as we push to improve our world.
About the Afternoon Conference, Know Better, Do Better:
We invite you to join us for a half-day immersive conference with talks and breakout workshops covering topics that include diversity, intersectionality, allyship, systemic feminine devaluation, and emotional labour.
Your ticket to this afternoon conference includes free admission to our evening spotlight speaker event, Focus Forward.
Enjoy the beautiful facilities at CIGI, complimentary coffee/tea & pastries throughout the afternoon, a licensed cash bar providing a cocktail hour mixer between the afternoon conference and evening spotlight event, plus a free, curated Feminist Market to browse throughout the day, featuring an array of local vendors and businesses!
About the Evening Spotlight Speaker Event, Focus Forward:
We invite you to join us for our evening spotlight speaker event, Focus Forward—opening with thoughts on identity & practical activism and featuring a panel comprised of CIGI Researchers and Research Fellows that will look at the representation of women in global governance positions.
The keynote panel of our International Women’s Day event stars Laura Mae Lindo, Fauzia Mazhar, Samantha Estoesta, and Cait Glasson, discussing the global rise of populism and the far right, its effects on gender equity issues, and how to gather up our resistance & our resilience in these troubling times, with audience participation in a Q&A session afterwards.
